Givat Hattanach means Bible Hill in Hebrew. It is the location of a large outcropping at the top of the Western portion of Israel. With amazing views of the old city and newly proposed public transportation, it makes an amazing place to have public facing restaurants, retail, and theater spaces to draw people up and through the lookout point. The hill itself is adjacent to multiple iconic structures including the Begin Museum, the Khan Theater, the Scotts Church, and the Israel Museum of Craft. Each of these is situated around the hill where the proposal for a new hotel and public plaza would enhance their utilization and frame them in ways never been developed before. There is a great opportunity to develop a connection from the Khan train station through the site, continuing North through multiple heritage sites and eventually landing at the old city about a 30 minute walk on flat land. The hill is within what the city calls a Green Urban landscape where majority of the hill’s vegetation would need to be preserved or replaced by more open green space. Our proposal looks to keep most of the hill intact by separating hotel and residential portions of the project on the East and West respectively. This way entrances an access are separate with only a potential tunnel connecting them at the North end of the site. This is where we proposed an extension to the historical Khan Theater, which was also a plan that the city of Isreal had proposed in 2018. The most important piece of the new development is the response and the enhancement of the area to receive a new cable car development on the Southwest corner attached to the Khan train station. This cable car would be the fastest way in and out of the old city.
