Residential projects in contemporary america have to be flexible, innovative, and concious. They need to respect the neighborhood and city as a whole while also being able to provide ample private space all with respecting growing construction and transportation costs. For Seaport in Boston, Massachusettes, we had preparred three separate schemes for a competition that would promote the public and private livelyhood of hudreds of young families. Situated between two new Amazon corporate offices, the L6 plot was a nexus and pivotal point within the masterplan and the neighborhood as a whole.

Each of the three schemes took its own take on public and private engagement by providing a distinct public facing character and an intrinsic private outdoor experience. One that familes would be able to enjoy year round both interior and exterior facing. Effectively blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor.
The three schemes vary based on the overall concept of The Rocks, which is the name of the developments new park. Whether it was erosion, excavation, or striation, each develops an identity that is distinct yet familiar to the neighborhood. Open green space, both public and private, are important to each design. The third scheme uses stepped communal roof terraces and corner balconies. The second lifts a large horizontal bridge which frames a roof terrace above the large theater program. And the first creates a series of cascading terraced spaces which have visual connections from office, to amenity, to shared private garden spaces.

Each iteration also takes a individualistic approach to the given cultural program as a pebble in a stream, a lifted gem, or an integrated fossil.
